The union of S.M.S. S.p.A. S.B. has given rise to another fundamental aspect in the growth and development : internal research groups collaborating with public institutions – universities and research centers accredited by the Ministry of Education (MIUR) to the realization of scientific projects about “Monitoring and Management of Territorial and Environmental Resources. “
The realization of this other field has been made possible thanks to the union of different companies and then of different specialized professionals in different fields and to the use of certain tools:
Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S)
The G.I.S. is a system that collects, processes, preserves data on territorial and environmental information of various kinds and from different sources also cartographic and cadastral sources.
This tool is taking a pivotal role in the analysis and study of many environmental phenomena of pollution, land reclamation, environmental remediation, diffusion of pollutants in soil and water.
The GIS operates processing data of different nature and origin, connects them according to specific criteria and parameters established, resulting in a simulation model of real phenomena that will be studied and interpreted by qualified and experienced personnel.
The research group of S.M.S. S.p.A. S.B. will focus on:
- analysis and patterns of development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS);
- implementation of mathematical models in accordance with Geographic Information Systems for the simulation of natural and anthropic phenomena;
- software development for specific applications GIS;
- web realizations with GIS functionality;
- service implementations and Web modules;
- GIS and Internet / Intranet networks in the field of control and management of environmental and land resources;
- development of software interfaces for the export, import and sharing of graphic data (vector and / or raster) from different development platforms.
SEARCH
Through the use of the 'numerical modeling' of the main hydraulic and environmental processes, S.M.S. S.p.A. S.B. bases its search for environmental protection, with studies and mathematical models "physically based" for process simulation:
- filtration in the subsoil (saturated and unsatured zone) of hydrocarbon contaminants (multiphasic approach);
- water-soil interaction (formation surface runoff, infiltration, filtration, ignition and propagation of mudflows);
- propagation and sediment transport in water bodies (mating problems of the two phenomena);
- estimation methodologies of water surface soil erosion by water.
TECHNOLOGY
The research addresses on the environmental issue will also cover technology:
- planning, management, control and containment systems optimization of pollutants flows in the subsurface;
- remediation techniques and safety of polluted sites.
